Partnerships
Hiawatha Parks & Recreation Department
The Hiawatha Parks and Recreation Department was a fantastic community partner this year. Working alongside our Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica Gabriel, they provided a free after-school enrichment program for students during the spring, offering both Arts Camp and Sports Camp opportunities. Students enjoyed activities such as painting, making slime, playing indoor Gaga Ball, and participating in a variety of fun sports and games. In addition, Hiawatha Parks and Recreation helped make our end-of-the-year picnic a success by preparing and serving lunch for students through a grant provided by Big Grove. We are grateful for their partnership and support of Nixon students and families, and we look forward to continuing to grow this relationship by exploring additional opportunities for students to utilize Hiawatha Parks and Recreation facilities and participate in future programs and activities.
Living Hope Wesleyan Church
Living Hope Wesleyan Church has been an incredible partner to Nixon Elementary, generously donating countless hours of time and service to support our students, staff, and families. Their members regularly volunteer at school events, helping with activities such as Carnival Night and our Halloween Bash, and they have provided meals for staff during conference nights. At the beginning of each school year, volunteers from Living Hope Wesleyan Church are always willing to lend a hand with projects to help prepare the building for students, including gardening, moving classroom materials, and other school improvement efforts. Pastor Chopper has also faithfully volunteered his time to build relationships with students by joining them for lunch throughout the year. Their kindness, generosity, and commitment to serving others have made a lasting impact on our school community. In recognition of his outstanding dedication, Pastor Chopper was named Nixon Elementary’s Outstanding Building Volunteer for the 2025–2026 school year.
Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center
Prairiewoods has been an incredible community partner for Nixon Elementary, providing meaningful learning experiences and support for our students and families. Throughout the year, students have visited Prairiewoods for field trips where they explored nature through activities such as nature walks, chalk art, building bird feeders, gardening, and learning about the environment. Prairiewoods has also partnered with Nixon for “Neighborhood Night Out”, helping bring families together through community connections, a shared meal, and bags of fresh produce grown right on their property. In addition, they generously donated gift cards for every Nixon student to help purchase school supplies at the beginning of the school year. We are grateful for the welcoming environment Prairiewoods provides and for the many ways they support our students, staff, and families. Their partnership has helped strengthen connections within our community while creating memorable experiences for our Bobcats.
Level 10 Apparel
Level 10 Apparel has been a valued partner of Nixon Elementary, providing high-quality Bobcat apparel for our students, staff, and families. Throughout the year, they have helped create opportunities for our school community to show their Nixon pride through a variety of fun and creative t-shirt and sweatshirt designs. Their support has helped strengthen our school spirit and sense of community, allowing Bobcats of all ages to proudly represent Nixon both inside and outside of school. We are grateful for their continued partnership and commitment to supporting our Nixon community.
Hiawatha Public Library
The Hiawatha Public Library is one of our valued community partners and plays an important role in supporting literacy and learning for Nixon students. Throughout the school year, students participate in several library walks, where they visit the library to explore its resources, discover new books, and enjoy stories shared by the librarian. The partnership extends beyond the library walls, as the librarian also visits Nixon to read with students and foster a love of reading. These experiences help connect students to valuable community resources while encouraging lifelong learning and curiosity.
American Heart Association (Iowa)
The American Heart Association of Iowa has been a valued partner of Nixon Elementary, helping students learn the importance of healthy habits, physical activity, and overall well-being. While Nixon has participated in Jump Rope for Heart for many years, this year we took our involvement to a new level through the Kids Heart Challenge. Working alongside our American Heart Association Zone Coordinator, a student heart committee helped plan activities and promote healthy lifestyles throughout the year, creating a fun and memorable experience for students. The American Heart Association also gave back $500 to Nixon through proceeds from our Kids Heart Challenge efforts. Through educational resources, engaging activities, and a shared commitment to student wellness, the American Heart Association has helped inspire our students to stay active, make healthy choices, and understand the importance of caring for their hearts.
District Partners
Nixon Elementary is fortunate to have several district and community partners who help support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of our students and families. Together, these partnerships help ensure that Nixon students have access to the resources, care, and support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally:
- Champions provides high-quality before- and after-school childcare services right at Nixon, giving families a convenient and supportive option for student care. We are grateful for our outstanding site coordinator and staff who create a welcoming environment for students each day.
- Hazel Health offers virtual counseling services, increasing access to mental health support and helping students develop skills to be successful both in and out of the classroom.
- Tanager Place partners with Nixon to provide Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS), offering individualized support to students throughout the school year and helping them build positive social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
- Foundation 2 serves as an important crisis support resource for students and families, providing assistance during times of need and helping connect individuals with appropriate services and supports.
- Camp Tanager provides our Nixon 4th and 5th grade students with an unforgettable end-of-year experience! Each year, our students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, team-building experiences, and adventures that create lasting memories while building confidence, friendships, and leadership skills. We are grateful for Camp Tanager's partnership and commitment to providing such a positive and enriching experience for our students.
